Question:

Kickline Tryouts?

Well, this year I tried out for kickline, but I didn't make it because I wasn't really prepared and I didn't really know what to expect. (I've dreamt of being on a dance/kickline team ever since I saw the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. Kinda corny, I know.) For the team, the coach requires a left split, right split, a toe-touch (it doesn't have to be perfect but it has to be somewhat decent), leg extension (when you pull your leg up the side of your body, i guess), and of course, high kicks. I guess I'm pretty flexible, my right split is flat on the ground, my left split is a few inches off, my toe-touch and leg-extension are okay. During tryouts this year, one of the judges the reason I didn't make the team was because i lacked technique. i have no dance experience, and she basically said I needed to point my toes more, and keep my energy level up during the routine. Is there anything I can do to improve that, w/o taking lessons? I am also on the heavy side...help?

  1. im a dance coach and trainer, so trust me. in order to keep your energy level up, you need to run, or jog and start doing cardio and working out a lot more which over time, will help with your breathing and help you become less tired. to work on pointing your toes, you need to stretch out your arches by having someone gradually pulling down on your points...resistance bands also work....better luck next year, and dont give up :)

  2. JAZZ shoes is what u need cuz they are light weight & not slippery..its like wearing socks but with tennis shoe base. (dont picture em exactly like that) there are more like ballet shoes but not as slippery.. you can get them at a dance store only so dont get to cheap ones at payless or sumthing cuz thoes suck..period!!

im on drill team and i do kickline routein

they work the work the best..its important to point your toes-that why u didnt make it..everytiime u point ur toes it should hurt & plus it creates an illusion of ur leg being longer than it really is && flex feet look UGLY while doing kickline so POINT THEM hehe.. make sure u wear jazz pants or cotton skin tight(not super tight=ugly) jst perfect fit..not to long or short.. black pants at tryouts..its makes ur kicks look cleaner and nicer which is what teams are looking for.. good luck & hope this helped in any way!

heavy weight has notthing to do on how u perform..there are girls on the heavy side on drill team that made it rather than some pretty skinny girls..it all about facial experssions!!--very important..and how perform..

  3. im on my kickline team and you should kick at your house as high as you can then you will go down more doing a split.im on my kickline team and i dont take lessons either but i realized since i kept kicking high everyday i kick now to my head.

p.s:rember when your kicking keep your back straight!!!!

    good luck!!hope you make it.
