Well, this year I tried out for kickline, but I didn't make it because I wasn't really prepared and I didn't really know what to expect. (I've dreamt of being on a dance/kickline team ever since I saw the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. Kinda corny, I know.) For the team, the coach requires a left split, right split, a toe-touch (it doesn't have to be perfect but it has to be somewhat decent), leg extension (when you pull your leg up the side of your body, i guess), and of course, high kicks. I guess I'm pretty flexible, my right split is flat on the ground, my left split is a few inches off, my toe-touch and leg-extension are okay. During tryouts this year, one of the judges the reason I didn't make the team was because i lacked technique. i have no dance experience, and she basically said I needed to point my toes more, and keep my energy level up during the routine. Is there anything I can do to improve that, w/o taking lessons? I am also on the heavy side...help?
