Question:

Kid's Olympics Ideas?

My kids are almost 5 and about 6 1/2 years old. We've been enjoying the 2008 Beijing Olympics and want to do our own version here at home. Does anyone have any ideas on activities for a Children's Olympics in the house or back yard?

  1. If you have a pool have them swim a lap across to see who wins (or 2 laps if the pool is small).

Play soccer in the backyard (set up rocks or cones to be the goals).

Do hurdling. Set up cones or bars or something and have them jump over them to the finish line.

  2. back yard swimming (if you have a pool).

    track (racing)

    biking

    soccer (up to 9 points)

  3. We did this as kids!!  Invite the neighbor kids to join in!  We had an opening ceremony.  All the kids dressed up and had a parade up and down the street while our mom played music outside.  We had races, handstand contests, potato sack races, who could throw the ball the farthest, etc.!  It was a blast.  Our moms made "medals" out of ribbon and tin foil!

  4. Swimming if you've got a pool

Egg race--hardboil them so when they fall, you won't have raw egg all over

Track (laps around the house/back and forth across your yard)

    Scavenger Hunt
