  1. I started playing alone prolly at 5. but i had a nice neighborhood and big brothers... so it depends. i would spend hours out there.

  2. My daughter is 7 and I always go outside with her.  I also have a 2 year old, but that's just common sense.  One time, my husband was home inside and I wanted to take my 2 year old for a walk in her stroller.  My oldest didn't want to go, so I said ok you can play in the front until we get back.  My husband did not like that at all, so he sat outside with her.  Sometimes when my oldest has a friend over, they like to go in the backyard and play on the hammock and slide.  I let them do that by themselves, but I'm always in the kitchen where I can see them.  They are not allowed in the front without me.  We live in a safe neighborhood too.

  3. DD is seven and I am ALWAYS outside with her. Although other parents are not in the neighborhood. We do have a large wooded area behind my row of houses so chances are no one will grab her from there. I do worry about animals and the creek. SO I find it safer to be outside with her.

  4. We fenced in our back yard and put in a playground out there..I have 3 picture windows all along the backside of my house...I can see in the back yard from anywhere all I have to do is look.....This is the first year I've let my kids go out with out my direct supervision...I watch...they don't always know it...lol

I trust my kids because I've watched them  outside since they were babies...They know the rules and follow them fairly well...My youngest is 5 and my oldest will be 8 in August.

I don't allow them in the front yard by themselves due to the fact that people drive like idiots down my subdivision's road.

  5. well i'm thirteen now and i go roaming around cuz i moved to a safer neighborhood. the neighborhood is a new development and there are many babies and toddlers. What i've noticed is that the mom or dad would be out doing yard work or gardening, etc. while the kids play outside. this way they are there supervising and getting things done at the same time.

  6. sometimes I go out with them and sometimes I don't. When they were younger I always went out with them to play or at least would sit on the porch to watch. Now that they are older (13, 13, 11 and 8) I don't need to watch them like a hawk anymore however I do still enjoy going out and playing with them or sitting out to watch them play. Some things we play together are volleyball, baddmitten, catch, in the sprinkler, etc... we also do yardwork together.

  7. I go outside with the children and watch them play. (toddlers).

They never play unattended; with the exception of when they are in their cribs.

  8. I live in a smaller city and am familiar with our neighbors, we all keep on eye on the kids outside so I feel pretty safe leaving them out there by themself and checking on them periodically or they come in and check in with me, recently my daughter discovered the Walkie talkies so she takes one and I have one and we keep in touch that way if she is going further than our front yard.   My daughters are 10 and 6 and they generally play in the summer from the time I get home till it gets dark.  Alot of time I may be out with them doing yard work.

  9. My daughters started playing out when they were about 6. My eldest and middle children used to go to their friends accross the road where I knew they were safe, then my youngest and middle made friends with another little girl who actually taught my youngest to ride a bike!

They are allowed quite far now because we live in a safe area, mostly familys and old people and I just say be back by __ and make them check in. They never go out just by themselves, they either go out with each other or other friends.

I think it's great. I don't watch them, I know they're safe. They've made friends they wouldn't have made and we have street parties every year. They do argue, when it's rainy they mope around, but overall it's much better having them ride around on bikes playing cops and robbers than sitting in the house annoying me!

  10. I always go with my children to the park aged 6 and 3..we have to cross a street to get to the park and I am not sure of the park...I trust my son but not some of the children there...I remember I was allowed to go to the park at 6 yrs but that was a different time then....I do "test" him occasionally like the time we where at a park and my youngest had to go pee and the bathroom was close...I told him to stay there and not leave without telling me....we where gone 10 min and everything went great....I am letting go slowly...I may let him go to the park and then join him 15 min later soon....

  11. I go outside if my 2-year-old is out (obviously).  My 7- and 9-year-olds are allowed in our yard by themselves or the neighbors' yards or the cul-de-sac behind our house with at least one other kid.  If my almost-5-year-old is out without me, it has to be with her siblings, in our yard only, and I'm keeping an eye and ear out.  I keep a window or the door open and I have huge windows that look out on the back yard.

  12. My mom watched me when I was outside till I was 10 because we moved and she thought this area was safer.

I can play outside until my mom or dad calls me in.

    I hope this helped.

    -Tara
