Kid Kate keeps her unbeaten record at Saratoga by winning the Rachel Alexandra Stakes giving Chad Brown his 4th win in 3 days
Trained by Chad Brown for Dell Ridge Farm LLC, Kid Kate kept her unblemished record at Saratoga by winning the $75,000 Rachel Alexandra Stakes on 1 August, 2011.
The 4-year-old filly, under E Castro, presented her trainer, Chad Brown, with his second stakes' win in as short as three days.
The filly was up against a tough cast for the Rachel Alexandra Stakes, but a speedy move on the turn gave Kid Kate all the advantage she needed to win the race, and she won it by 1 1/4 length over Belle of the Hall.
Chad Brown earned rapid success in the past 3 days, as he won his fourth race in the past 3 days, including the all important Grade 1 victory with Zagora to land the Grade 1 Diana Stakes at Saratoga on 30 July, 2011.
Eddie Castro was calm under pressure as he guided the filly marvelously and, timed his run to perfection. Kid Kate, the daughter of Lemon Drop Kid broke with pace from the gates, but got heavily contested while doing so.
Over at the distance of 1 1/16 miles, approx 8.5 furlongs, the 3 to 2 Lisa’s Booby Trap led the field in fine style and tried to open up the field. She was setting good fractions reaching the quarter mile pole and led through the half mile mark.
Buckleupbuttercup was trailing the leader, but in all the commotion upfront Kid Kate was held back behind the pack, and she wasn’t prominent until the turn.
Katy Now was also among the early pacers who assumed the lead, but the filly stayed on even when the back lot came to the front and gave them a tough time.
The hot pursuit was over after the turn when Kid Kate, rallied in between horses got to the lead on the stretch, challenged by Katy Now but she had given her all and gave way to Bell of the Hall who took advantage of the hot pace and beat Katy Now by a nose
for the second position.
Kid Kate typically coming in to the party late and ruining it for everybody, covered the distance of 1 1/16 miles in 1 minute and 24 seconds.
Kid Kate hasn’t been lucky this season, with a lot of positions on the card, she won her second race of the year.
Her first race was the season starter at Aqueduct on 29 January, 2011, when she ran in the Correction Stakes under jockey R Dominguez.
Kid Kate ran at a distance of 6 furlongs and covered it in 1 minute and 10.03 seconds, defeating the likes of Meese Rocks and Purrfect Bluff.
The win at Saratoga kept good things rolling for trainer Chad Brown, who is looking impressive after his recent run of success.
