Kid Kate to race in the Garland of Roses at the Big A in her final start
Dell Ridge Farm’s 5-year-old mare, Kid Kate, will run her last career race on 1 December, 2012, and has an opportunity to end her career on a high, as she has won stakes races as a 2, 3, 4, and a 5-year-old, and this time she will be running her final race another stakes race called the $75,000 Garland of Roses at Aqueduct Racetrack.
Trained by Chad C. Brown, Kid Kate won her first stakes race as a 2-year-old when she landed the Junior Champion Stakes at Monmouth Park, and then in 2010 she came out of the Belle Charlie Stakes as the victor at Belmont Park.
At the Aqueduct Racetrack, Kid Kate was victorious in the Correction Stakes over at six furlongs, in her 2011 seasonal debut, and then at the backend of the same year, she downed back-to-back races at Saratoga Race Course, starting from the Rachel Alexandra Stakes at seven furlongs, and the Lady Tak Stakes at six and one-half furlongs.
This year in her fifth starts, Kid Kate won the Classy Mirage Stakes over a distance of 6 furlongs over the Belmont Park’s dirt course on 14 October, 2012, and downed the distance in 1 minute and 16.69 seconds, as Roman Treasure and Media Starlett finished second and third, respectively.
"When you consider she’s won stakes races for me four consecutive years, you can’t do any better than that," said trainer Chad Brown. "She’s been a very consistent, classy filly and a pleasure to be around."
In the Garland of Roses Stakes, Kid Kate will run over a distance of six furlongs, as the 3-year-old and up fillies and mare event has reeled in seven other filly and mare sprinters to run against the Lemon Drop Kid daughter in her final start.
Kid Kate has been more successful in Saratoga than any other venue, but Chad Brown is confident that she will do well at Aqueduct Racetrack, where in four appearances she has won once and came second once, with two thirds.
"She’s been doing very well and I am pleased with the way she’s coming into Saturday’s race," said Brown. "Hopefully, she can go out on a winning note."
