  1. Did she have a blanket when she was very young that she chewed on? some kids start out by chewing on clothing at a young age and continue with it and end up being a habit. There isn't much you can do other then constantly telling her to not put the clothing in her mouth. It is a habit and taking things away from her would be emotionally hard for her only because habits are sometimes unaware of when they do this and don't realize they are doing it. Only constant reminding would help her to stop.

You can make her hand wash her clothing and just tell her that it is gross for you to touch her clothes when she chews on them. She will realize that she did that to her clothes and realize why should mommy clean them if I caused this.  She may soon realize that its no fun to clean her clothes and actually try to stop this habit on her own.

  2. this is perfectly normal. when my brother was around 5/6 he always  chewed on his clothes. my mom told him to stop and finally he did but then he just did in school. maybe say something like "if you dont bite your clothes for one week ill buy you a pack of cookies from the grocerie store." thats what my mom did for us and it worked.

  3. Children can get all sorts of strange habits..I think it would be better if you didn't make a big deal out of it...try not to pay so much attention to her when she does it. You could also try a reward system for her ..if she doesn't eat her clothes , she get a surprise , but if she does don't go over the top with her , it will only stress her even more and then she might starting eating your clothes :) I always believe in trying to see the funny side of things when it comes to little children .

  4. We have one child who did that. I thought he was getting in a new tooth, so it didn't bother me. I figured it just made his gums feel better to chew. He actually ate little holes in his shirts. I began to put the shirt on backwards, and it helped him to remember that he didn't want to chew. It must have been uncomfortable. He gradually stopped on his own.

  5. This isn't uncommon, but it might become an issue in school because it's unsanitary.

My son's friend did this and when he was at our house one weekend he found the Bitter Apple spray that we used with our puppies to stop their chewing.  He put it on his own shirt and broke himself of the habit in two days.

The point s not to use dog products on your daughter, but that she might be ready to get rid of this habit as well.  Especially if the kids at school make fun of her for it.  Maybe they make a similar spray for humans that would work for her.
