Question:

Kidnapper characteristics?

i know this is random, but for a writing seminar that i'm taking, my story is about a father who kidnaps his daughter, and in order for the reader to be surprised by the twist, i need to occasionally drop hints about the father, so i need to know some characteristics of kidnappers, or in your opinion, what a kidnapper would act like on a daily basis? so far, ive made the dad always wake up early, favor the daughter he's going to kidnap, try to get the other daughter (main character, who is in 1st person) out of the house constantly, etc.

any suggestions? thanks

  1. Hey,

I'll take a 'stab' at it:

A kidnapper may be someone who is reserved, or introverted. He goes through the course of his mundane life without much social interaction. He may wake up and m********e before he slips into a short-sleeved button work shirt with a thin, plaid tie. Despite being reserved, he is somewhat impulsive as well. He sees something and automatically creates in himself this sense of needing it, he believes he needs it and must have it.

The father may be a simple computer progammer working in a cubicle at work and tends to look at deviant websites of child pornography. This may lead him to have an unlawful incestous desire for his daughter. He carefully studies her when she sleeps, and dislikes when she goes out with friends.

I don't know the angle or specifics of your characters or storyline, so my input is just saomething i think of when kidnapping a daughter comes to mind. Good luck with your story!!
