  1. Your Father's life is far from over......, we have just taken my father to Benidorm for a 11 days break and he goes on dialysis for the same amount of time.

First you (or your father) need to see the co-ordinator in the dialysis ward at his hospital and ask if they can arrange dialysis in Benidorm.

Every situation will be different, but in our case, we arranged the holiday for 6 months in advance to allow the hospital in Benidorm and the UK hospital plenty of time to arrange it.

The co-ordinator ask us to provide 3 separate dates for her to put forward to Clinica Benidorm.

I done this by researching for the cheapest flights out using Easyjet.  The hosp in Benidorm select one, and I went ahead and booked the flight.  I then booked the Rio Park through Thompsons (you can pick whichever hotel you want of course).

I ordered a wheelchair to be delivered to the hotel, (which costed £21.00 for the hire) and they also picked it up at our convenience.

My father got a taxi to the hosp, (from the Rio Park, it cost about 6E) each time and we collected him in his wheelchair when he was finished.  Its about 15 mins walk from the hosp to Rio Park Hotel.

Although my father is able-bodied, the wheelchair helped a lot.  Obviously after his session, he was tired and with the wheelchair, he was able to still get around Benidorm without being further tired out.

He had a great time and the hospital staff were great.

So firstly talk to the co-ordinator and arrange everything around the dates suggested.  It is no great problem.

If you need any further details regarding insurance, wheelchair hire or just sounding out, don't hesitate to e-mail me from my profile.

  2. It can be arranged with his GP.  I know a lady who went on holiday to Spain regularly and had to have this treatment.
