Ok my kids are 6, 7 and almost 11. Since their mom and I got into golfing they love watching it and hitting around. They even have a junior golfer set. I need to know good REAL tips to know how to teach them proper golf skills. We golf and taught ourselves but arent great enough to teach we are new and still learning.

I would love links to sites with video I think that's the best way to teach them is through seeing. I don't want to buy tools and videos or pay for lessons.

I have 4 kids total and I can't afford that and green time and range time and balls etc.... So I would rather show them technique so when we get green time they can develop what they are learning.

They are multi-sports and pick things up well....

Thanks....

  1. take them to the range and try to make them have solid contact with the ball even if they dont hit it very far. and the most important thing you can do is too help them with their short game because thats pretty much all they can do at that age anyways

  2. Try a local first tee program...it will help them and they will learn skills and etiquette. I know they have programs all over the country. The volunteers that run the program truly love the game and teaching it to the children. Give it a try...You won't be disappointed.

  3. For the younger ones, I would say to teach them the proper grip and stance and that is just about it.  The 11yr old can learn more.  Maybe bunkers, shorter shots, etc... I really feel that many kids can simply learn by observation and immitation.  Give them the basic tool (grip) and let them learn how their body swings.

Two of my three are somewhat into the game, and one (she is 9) REALLY picked up a sweet swing - and she is a lefty.  All she did is watch a few LPGA gals at the range and figued out how to bend, stand, etc.  She also puts lights out.

So, the somewhat bottom line (IMHO) is let their internal drive dictate how and what they want to learn.  Around here the Golf Channel is always on, my start-up is in the golf space, so lots and lots of talk is about golf.  Your mileage may vary.

  4. Have a look in Golfing Magazines, I have seen many tips on training the next "Tiger" with simple excercises for each age group,

  5. I would start with the basics. They will find it boring at first but if they are really wanting to participate in the sport, they need to learn them. Grip, Stance, Backswing, Downswing and Follow Through. Without these standard techniques firmly entrenched, they will struggle and may not enjoy the golf experience.

There are plenty of sites out there that have video and tips for everyone. Still you should focus on the basics for the kids and yourself.

  6. I feel the same way buddy.
