Kids cameras?

my daughter has asked for a camera for her 5th birthday. I think its a good idea as she likes to use mine. Can anyone recommend a decent camera for a young child? I have looked at the fisher price camera but it looks a bit toyish/ babyish. All i want is a camera that can handle a few knocks. Thanks.

  1. Check out the Mattel GirlTech Digital Video/Movie Camera and Video Journal.  Retails for around $60 in K-Mart/Target/Big W (Australia) but my 10 year old love it.  Requires a Windows compatible personal computer though or else no good.

  2. My kindergartner has had the Fisher-Price one for 2 years now, I put a 1GB card in and it holds a ton of pictures.  It works really well, and kids can work it all by themselves.  It is probably your best bet as far as durability.  Ours has even survived a throw down the stairs.  My little one can also use mine as well, although I wouldn't trust it would survive an accident.  It is really cool looking though, it's a bright purple Polaroid 8mp, it is from Target.  Hope this helps.  Good luck.

  3. There is actually no need to purchase a camera made for kids. If you want to make a good buy, you should purchase something that can last her untill she starts school. For about US $145, you can get a 7.1 megapixel camera, canon powershot A570 with lens cover to prevent scratching, and is shockproof to a mild extent. If you are willing to spend more, you can buy some outdated Ricoh shockproof and waterpfoof camera at about US $220.

  4. Tommy make a brilliant digital camera thats 'child proof' water and knock proof too
