Me and my wife are going to the great parnassus in cancun with my son and his friend. They are 15 and 16 years old. Will they be able to get alcoholic drinks from the bars?

  1. While yes, the drinking age in Mexico is 18, sometimes Cancun seems to have their own law enforcement or lack thereof. It really depends on each bartender, however, at the resort, it is doubtful your kids will be served. This is because the resorts employees have people looking over their shoulders and they do not want to lose their jobs. At the smaller bars it is a completely different situation, your kids will likely have little problem getting served. At the larger clubs and venues such as Coco Bongo and Dady O, they will not be served.

  2. I know you meant to say ," My wife and I..."  No, the kids will NOT be able to get drinks in bars in Cancun.  Those bars want to stay in business and selling to minors is not the way to do that.  Hopefully, you are asking because you want to be sure they cannot get alcohol if they go to the bars alone, not because you would be buying it for them.  Yesterday there was a similar question from parents who wanted to buy liquor for their kids in Cancun.

  3. I went to Cancun a few months ago I am 19 and I was not carded at all, my cousin was 18 and she was carded once and we saw a few people drinking that looked very young so it just depends on the bar.

  4. It's possible mate, but the best thing to do is go with your kids and explain to the bar staff who they are, and they shouldn't be served alcohol. Also ask at check in if it's possible to get a Kids bracelet that is a different colour.

    Anyway, Good Luck.

  5. It's happened. I went twice underage and stayed at a resort with my family. I'm guessing I looked older than what I was because they made drinks for me without paying any attention to my wristband and made them with alcohol. However, not everytime.  All in all, it's possible. Just sit down and have a talk w/your kids and tell them what you expect out of them and tell them that you trust them and wouldn't like to loose that trust. (That's if you don't mind them drinking.. you didn't mention for sure whether you minded or not)

  6. The legal drinking age is 18.

  7. Well, in most cities and towns in Mexico you can send a kid to buy beer and they will sell it to them. Now Cancun, we've been there twice and not one time they asked us for Id's or for our age and I looked like a 15 year old back then. So, I'm sure they will be able to get drinks somewhere... So just advise them of the consequences and responsibilities of drinking...
