Kids eye colour, strange!?

Question

My husbands eyes are Hazel, Mine are Blue.

Our 10yr old son has hazel eyes, our 4yr old son has one hazel one blue and our 2yr old daughter has blue eyes (gorgeous ones too might i add!) both our families have asked do we know why this is and how does it happen but i don't even know myself!

How does this happen???

not sure but my son has two different colours also when he was younger 1 was blue the other hazel as he's grown they have evened

out more still odd but not as noticeable maybe because me and the dad's genes were both quite dominant good luck with this

i think she wants to know why two different eye colours on the same child!

not why all her kids have different  colours x

I dunno how correct i am yet i have an answer.In ur elder son he's got his dad's genes responsible for the eye colour more dominating than urs. So he has blue eyes.It goes vice versa for ur daughter.But for ur 4yr old kid ,the genes responsible for hazel and blue colour both are showing co-dominance.Like in plant genetics when a red rose is crossed with white one it gives a pink rose plant.

Because there are several genes that determine eye color. The genes have certain amounts of pigments (a lot of pigments would be brown, smaller amounts of pigments would be blue, and anything in between would be green, hazel, and shades of light brown and dark blue), and how the genes with different amounts of pigments mix together.

It's all very complicated, actually. If you have one gene that has a lot of pigment, then most of your other genes have little pigment, you could have blue eyes. But, your children might only inherit the dark gene from you, and the genes with more pigments that make your husband's eyes a 'halfway' color, then your child could even have brown eyes!

In short, you just can never tell for sure with eye color; so many things can happen!
