Should we bring back 'British Bulldog'?

Children should be allowed to play games that were previously banned, according to council leaders.

Could playground games tackle obesity?

Games such as British Bulldog have been banned from school playgrounds because of health and safety worries.

But the Local Government Association (LGA) says games which keep children physically active should also be encouraged.

Current trends could see 60 per cent of the UK population suffering from obesity by 2050. To stay healthy, children need to do 60 minutes of physical activity a day.

Does your child do enough exercise?

Are you in favour of a ban on potentially dangerous playground activities?

What can schools and councils do to balance safety with healthy exercise?

  1. yep

  2. British Bulldog is a great game!!! I used to love playing it as a kid

  3. With the general mindset of people today, children and adults, I don't think it would be a wise decision.  A good, brisk walk to and from school, as a group, may be a better solution.  There is safety in numbers.  Especially if a few in the group were parents.  It probably wouldn't hurt them either.

If we want our children to get off their derrieres, we must first put forth the effort, ourselves!

  4. Let kids play as they like  ,  We played things banned now  but I never knew anyone got hurt bad    Just grazes and scratches

  5. That's what our generation were brought up on. Too much interference from the health and safety police nowadays so bring back those games. That's what playtime used to be about.

  6. I didn't know british bulldog was banned! you can't have any fun nowadays.

I'm just glad I grew up in the 80's

  7. the nanny state causes more problems than it solves so yes.

  8. yes they only use people getting hit as a excuse to ban it as they claim it is 'too violent' because you touch some one in tag but in my school the other kids do rugby-which involves tackling and is worse than tag

  9. I think we need stop suing schools when kids get hurt from playing normal games. Then they might be able to afford and be bothered to run sports for our kids.

I think that the government is obsessed with results and targets. It might be good to bring this obsession into sport too. But that doesn't solve the basic problem.

We need to tell the government to stop meddling in the minutae of our lives.
