I think this is a great step forward. I can't believe its taken so long to become a compulsory part of British history education. We've long been happy for kids to learn about other country's atrocities such as the Holocaust, but when it comes to admitting our own country's grave errors we've been a bit reticent. I really hope this also gives our kids a greater awareness of the economic slavery that still exists in many parts of the world today and on which we turn a blind eye in order to get our cheap goods. By recognising the mistakes of the past, we will help prevent them being repeated in the future.

  1. thats what happens when u have a queen! hahaha fuuuuckin monarchs!

  2. what slave trade? Africa, India, Caribbean, Roman, Egyptian, China, Japan etc. etc. of course you mean all slavery and are not being prejudice towards one nation. are you? sure you are.

  3. dont see the big deal either way.

  4. God, education in this country really is poor, isn't it? My daughter already knows about the slave trade and she's six! Any child who makes it to secondary school without knowing at least that there was such a thing as the slave trade, and that many of these ships were departing from Bristol Harbour really has been cheated in their education. I don't understand how parents can allow their children to grow up wallowing in such ignorance.

  5. I agree.

I´ve visited the International Slavery Exhibition in Liverpool maritime museum many times. It´s recently undergone big improvements.

This year aged 9 my son was old enough to understand and ask questions and I enjoyed the oportunity to explain it all to him as we live  abroad and he won´t study that at school here.

I also took him to see "respectacled" a monument to those who died in the Holocaust explaining another terrible period in History.

We should make sure that ALL our children are educated about these matters.

    We must NEVER forget.

  6. Your history is rather biased since it only tells about the bad side of slavery. It has its good points as well and they should be talked about also. Slavery was a great institution and worked very well for thousands of years. It would solve a great many problems if it were brought back. Eventually, it will be.

  7. its such a small part of british history i don't really see it being worth more than a brief mention

if that offends people sorry but when you think of all thats happened in british history how could slavery be anything but a brief mention
