  1. I am in the process of doing my basement for the kids as a play room.  I am doing chalkboard paint in the shape of a chalkboard, on another part I found magnetic paint so I am doing that.  I also was thinking of painting with stencils, numbers with the number of bugs or animals next to the number (2 ladybugs next to the two, etc).  Depending on your children's ages you could also do colors, shapes, etc.  If you didn't want to paint all these I would recommend going to a teacher store or online and order borders and wall decorations.  You could also do a map of the world and the United States.  I think what you're doing is a wonderful idea, and your children will benefit greatly for it.

  2. Buy chalkboard paint you paint it on the walls and can use chalk on it great stuff can get a walmart... Get a book center (shelving unit) so you can put reading books, table and chairs so they can sit at. Also get a bigger cabinet with shelves and fill it with art and craft items, coloring books. You can also go to oriental trading and they have things you can hang on the wall, charts, charaters, learning things as well that are cheap.

  3. Try putting up pictures with the words beside them, simple math (1+1=2), world maps, animals, street safety, positive phrases are a plus for self esteem boosting such as "I am special", I am important".

Have fun with it and don't be afraid to get creative! Think from the creative side of your brain!
