Kien Keat, Boon Heong reserve their right to be in Men’s Doubles finals – Denmark open Update
Malaysia’s prime duo of Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong performed up to the expectations and escorted the country to grand finale of Yonex Denmark Open on Saturday, October 20, 2012.
This Men’s Doubles semi-final clash pit them against Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen and they had to sweat hard for one hour and 21 minutes to outshine the top seeded team of the event.
The Malaysian campaigners showed superb coordination and saved their honour despite going down in the first set.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong, who were under severe criticism before the commencement of this Premier Super Series, silenced their critics by putting a favourable result of 19-21, 21-11 and 26-24.
Though, they took some time to get on right track and this sluggishness cost them a valuable match point but still they managed to tip the scale in their favour by prevailing in the last two games.
In first set of the match, Kien Keat and Boon Heong looked completely off colour as they put a fluctuated performance and lost the opening game.
Initially, both teams were standing equal with 10-10 total but then the Danish pair showed elevated craft and bagged this crucial set with 21-19 score on the board.
However, the Malaysian campaigners did not remain at the lower end permanently and bounced back with a strong reply.
This time they played with great precision and cruised to victory without any serious trouble. They kick-started their campaign by ruling the court in the establishing rallies and then capitalised this early advantage to place a significant margin of 11.
After the mid-game break, Kien Keat and Boon Heong injected more intensity in their attack and blew away their rivals with a striking knock of 21-11.
The decider was certainly the best part of the battle as both teams stood toe-to-toe all the way to the final moments and did not allow each other to establish a notable lead.
The match kept swinging between two contenders and this nerve-racking tussle ended when the Malaysian duo piled up an overwhelming score of 26-24.
Now Kien Keat and Boon Heong are scheduled to meet the Korean pair Shin Baek Choel-Yoo Yeon Seong in the title match.
