Kien Keat shows high regard for ex- coach Rexy Mainaky – Badminton News
It seems Men’s Doubles expert of Malaysia, Koo Kien Keat believes that gratitude is the right attitude as he paid homage to his former coach Rexy Mainaky who is going to work as national coaching director of Philippines from May 1, 2012.
Rexy guided the duo Kien Keat-Boon Heong in their way to glory as they won the Asian Games gold medal in 2006 under his supervision.
The Malaysian duo also reached at top of the world ranking by winning 12 esteemed Open titles including All-England in 2007.
However, badminton guru Rexy Mainaky ended his attachment with Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and decided to start from scratch in the Philippines.
Men’s Doubles expert Kien Keat looked sad at Rexy’s departure and he commended his services while cherishing the good memories.
He said, “I will always be thankful and grateful to have been coached by him. I will always remember his perseverance. He keeps on battling no matter what. He never gave up on us and I respect him for that.”
World Number eight couple was not practicing under his supervision for last few months as they asked for a new coach after 2010 World Championships where they could not relish the opportunity to become World Champions.
Their decision created new controversy at that time but Kien Keat defended their step by saying that it was not Rexy’s fault rather they were looking to change their training approach.
He said, “We needed something new and Rexy was trying to help but nothing was working. I felt sorry about it but the decision was taken after consulting the management. It seemed to be the best thing to do at that time.”
However, Kien Keat also added that nothing was personal as they still enjoy a great bond of affinity and will follow him in the Philippines as well.
Kien Keat and Boon Heong were attached with Pang Cheh Chang for a short period of time and then they were given under direct supervision of Doubles head coach Tan Kim Her to prepare for London Olympics and make amends to their failure in previous edition
of the Olympics.
At the moment they are looking to boost their confidence by excelling in India Open which is going to be the last tournament before closing of Olympic qualification period.
