Kier Maitland seizes Men’s 1500m freestyle gold: Day four – Canadian Summer Nationals
Kier Maitland of KEYANO seized gold medal of the Men’s 1500m freestyle on day four of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Sunday, July 22.
Maitland spoiled the party of his challengers in the thirty-lap freestyle discipline as he rushed his way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal.
The 23-year-old Maitland enjoyed a considerable lead over his strongest opponent and hit the finishing blockade for gold medal by producing a time of 15 minutes and 24.20 seconds.
He was followed by Eric Hedlin of Island Swimming, who stayed nearly seven seconds apart and tapped the finishing end for silver medal by submitting an effort of 15 minutes and 31.59 seconds.
Third finest spot of the race was secured by Will Brothers of Island Swimming, who stayed three body lengths behind and touched the wall with an effort of 15 minutes and 34.42 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Peter Brothers of Island Swimming, who stayed almost 14 seconds apart and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 15 minutes and 48.47 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by CASC of Sean Penhale of CASC, who was only 0.40 seconds away from his foregoing finisher and ended fifth in the discipline by producing an effort of 15 minutes and 48.87 seconds.
Subsequently, Philip Guertin of CAMO proved his audacity for sixth fastest spot of the event as he remained nearly five seconds behind and clocked a timing of 15 minutes and 53.57 seconds for sixth place.
The 21-year-old Guertin was traced by Teddy Kalp of NYAC, who remained one and a half body length slower from his foregoing finisher and appeared on the wall with an effort of 15 minutes and 54.74 seconds.
Kalp was chased by Luke Reilly of VAND, who remained considerably slower and settled on the finishing end as eighth position holder by submitting an effort of 15 minutes and 59.52 seconds.
Furthermore, Maitland’s effort was highly appreciated by the audience and he shared his plans of representing his country at the Olympic Games.
