Kieran Gibbs back to full fitness and Fabregas saga rolls on for Arsenal
There is some good news for Arsenal ahead of the season. The young defender Kieran Gibbs is almost 100% fit, to finally be back in action after being on the road to recovery for more than 6 months.
Gibbs suffered a horrific injury in a Champions League match against Standard Liege back in November. The defender broke his leg and was not able to be part of Arsenal’s team in domestic or European competitions.
Gibbs was tipped as one of the most talented young English players; he had been part of Arsenal academy for a while and had been working hard to break into the first team. An unfortunate thing for the young left back was that once he finally got his name on the first team sheet he got injured.
Arsenal medical team has said that he has recovered to full extent and will be able to perform at the same level, but coach Wenger is still sceptical about his defender and said the extent of his recovery will be judged by his first few matches.
Kieran Gibbs said that he feels as good as new and cannot wait to be back in action for his team. He said that he has tested his foot in practice to a good extent and he has not felt any pain. He further added that he feels very excited about the new season and is looking forward to winning some silverware with Arsenal.
Gibbs’ recovery does come as a welcome news for Arsenal fans, Gael Clichy who has been playing in place of Gibbs was not able to step up to the plate, and Wenger had been looking to replace him at the end of last season.
Another story that just refuses to go away is the transfer saga of their captain Cesc Fabregas. Toni Freixa who is the spokesman for Barcelona board has said that Arsenal have simply been not open to any negotiations.
Fabregas’ transfer has been the top agenda of Barcelona during this transfer market. Former club president Joan Laporta and the new man in charge Sandro Rosell have both said that Arsenal have been stubborn in their stance and have not been open for talks.
Barcelona did make a 35 million euro bid for the Spanish midfielder, but Arsenal turned it down immediately. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has maintained his stance that his captain remains at the centre of his plans and he is not willing to sell him at any price. Barcelona have been making all sorts of efforts to lure their target to Camp Nou , but all their efforts have been in vain and several offers, pleads to hold talks have fallen on deaf ears. Frexia said that the approach by Arsenal to shut out Barcelona is quite unprofessional and every offer should be heard and talks can lead to a deal.
Flexia said that Fabregas himself has shown interest in coming to Spain; he went on to say that if a player is willing to leave the club it is highly unprofessional of Arsenal not to open the door for talks.
Cesc Fabregas who was part of Spain’s team in the World Cup, where they beat Netherlands in the final still has 5 years left on his contract at Arsenal. His Spanish team mate Xavi said that when the team was in South Africa Cesc did say that he wants to join Barcelona. However Fabregas’ father maintains the stance that his son loves Arsenal and does not want to leave.
Pep Guardiola, the Barcelona coach, also said that Cesc will be an excellent addition to the team, and he has already started making plans for next season where Fabregas will feature in Barcelona’s midfield. Guardiola however said that the final decision rests with Arsenal.
