Kieran Gibbs injury not as bad as first feared
Arsenal’s young left back Kieran Gibbs injury is not as bad as first feared. The player should only be out for a short period of time after injuring his foot in the Carling Cup match with Tottenham Hotspur.
Arsenal had first feared that the injury was serious and that Gibbs had broken his metatarsal bone for the second time in a year. However, a scan on his injured foot revealed that there had been no break and that the player had just suffered severe bruising.
The club issued a statement saying, “Kieran has suffered severe bruising to his left foot and will hopefully only be missing from first team action for the short term.”
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be relieved that Gibbs injury is not serious, as he is already without Captain Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott, strikers Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner and holding midfielder Abou Diaby.
Gael Clichy is likely to be recalled to the Arsenal team for the Premier League match against West Brom on Saturday. However, Wenger will be delighted that Gibbs is not seriously injured and that the 20 year old will be available to provide competition and
fill in for Clichy if needed.
England manager Fabio Capello will also be relieved that the player’s injury will not rule him out for long as he tries to develop and bring some of England’s young talent into his squad. Gibbs was injured during last season with a broken metatarsal that
scuppered his chances of making the England World Cup squad.
Gibbs may miss the West Brom match, but the left back will hope to be named among the substitutes for the Premier League tie against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The player will also hope to start in one of the up and coming Champions League games and in
the next round of the Carling Cup.
