Kieran Merrilees, the in-form shuttler from Scotland, stretched his staggering run on court as stormed into Men’s Singles final after defeating Ukraine’s Kyrylo Leonov in semi-final contest at the Polish Open 2012 on Saturday, September 1, in Poland.
The higher ranked Kieran, who has been seeded at number five in Men’s Singles draw in the championship, played to his full potential on court and remained successful in beating the lower ranked Ukrainian player in a commanding manner.
The impressive Kieran was in full swing as he played flawless badminton while remaining focused on court and he remained successful in winning the battle in straight games with a striking margin in just 24 minutes.
In the meanwhile, Kyrylo failed to live up to expectations as he could not extend his winning streak against his higher ranked Scottish opponent. He lost this fight in straight sets without snatching any set.
The start of the opening set was favourable for the Scottish shuttler who played to his maximum potential and remained successful in taking a remarkable lead at the opening stage.
The fifth seeded Kieran showed an impressive performance in opening set of the contest and he remained successful in taking a spectacular advantage by setting up a tremendous lead until the mid-game interval.
After the one-minute break, the higher ranked Kieran continued showing up his hard-to-learn skills and kept his rival under pressure.
The Scottish shutter remained in aggressive mood all the way in concluding half of opening set and finished it up with a stunning 21-10 score on the board.
In the following game, the lower ranked Ukrainian shuttler tried to play positive badminton but he could not put up strong show on court as he failed to match the level of his rival.
On the other hand, Kieran remained composed and positive and established a convincing lead until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Kieran continued showing up his lofty craft without facing any problem and ended up the battle in straight sets with an incredible margin of 21-9.
Kieran won this semi-final clash against Kyrylo in straight sets in just 24 minutes with a stunning 21-10 and 21-9 score on the board.
