Kieren Perrow defeats Chris Davidson to enter Round 3 of Quiksilver Pro France – 2011 ASP World Tour
Quiksilver Pro France, the eighth stop of the eleven event 2011 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour, treated fans to an exciting head-to-head battle in the 12th heat of Round 2, pitting Australia’s Kieren Perrow against his compatriot
Chris Davidson in a battle for the Round 3 spot.
The battle turned out to be real close, with both surfers putting up a determined fight while looking to extend their life in the event. In the end, however, it was Perrow who managed to come up with a superior performance and clinched victory to go through
into the next round, consequently eliminating Davidson from the competition.
The latest stop on the elite tour was yet to see a day with ideal surfing conditions. The surfers had found themselves putting in extra effort during their hunt for a decent score on the first and second active day of the competition and once again found
themselves struggling to adjust to the conditions on Sunday. Things were definitely not easy out in the middle, with the shifting five-foot waves keeping the surfers at bay and making it extremely difficult for them to collect good scores.
Perrow and Davidson had already gotten scarred by the challenging waves during the first round and now found themselves fighting for survival in very similar conditions on Sunday.
As the 12th heat got underway, the 34-year-old Perrow wasted no time in asserting his dominance by locking a wave in the opening minutes to unload a series of exquisite tricks and posting a 7.67 on the score-board. Davidson met the challenge head
on and responded with a 7.33-point wave, keeping the pressure to a minimum.
As the heat progressed, both the surfers went through a number of mediocre scores as it became increasingly difficult to squeeze something decent out of the waves on offer. With a few minutes left before the siren was to go off, Davidson managed to add an
additional 5.23 points to his account, moving to a heat-total of 12.56 points. The score seemed quite promising under the conditions at hand, but the last-minute aggression by Perrow proved the score to be insufficient. Collecting a 7.17 off a wave in the
dying minutes of the heat, Perrow climbed to a heat-total of 14.84 points, which put him ahead of his rival on the score-board and consequently sealed the fate of the contest in his favour.
