Kieron Pollard, the West Indian stand-in captain, is devastated with his team’s performance in their last league match of the tri-nation tournament against Sri Lanka at the Port of Spain and admitted that his side threw away the advantage.
Having won an important toss, the home team opted to bowl first in a two-paced pitch. The decision turned out to be the right one as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 were in deep trouble at one stage with three wickets down for just 29 runs on the board.
Thanks to a stunning 90 not out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779, the visitors posted a competitive total of 219 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets in 41 overs.
Pollard slammed his bowling line-up during the post-match presentation ceremony and said that they were too undisciplined.
“We undid the work we did yesterday,” said Pollard. “It wasn't right on our part. When you set plans, you have to bowl the plans. We were all over the shop. You can't set fields for bad bowling. If we are honest with ourselves, our bowling was not up to
the mark. Thirty-one extras is totally un-expectable.”
Chasing 230 runs from 41 overs as per the Duckworth Lewis method, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DM-Bravo-c1386 consolidated the innings for the home team. However, apart from these two, none of the batsmen
were able to make an impression. As a result, the Caribbean men managed to score just 190 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted overs.
Pollard praised the efforts of Simmons and Bravo but admitted the complete failure of the rest of the batting line-up.
“Bravo and Simmons brought us back, but if we are totally honest with ourselves, myself included, we haven't batted well. We always put ourselves in these situations. As cricketers, we need to find a way out. It should not have come down to this,” the all-rounder
added.
Sri Lanka and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 will be up against each other at the same venue today in their last league match.
