Kieron Pollard feels http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 can beat England – ICC World Cup 2011 news
West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard on Tuesday termed his team favourites to win the crucial ICC World Cup 2011 game against England in Chennai on Thursday.
However, he has warned his side against complacency as the Poms recovered from a similar situation in the Caribbean in 2010 to lift the ICC World Twenty20 Championship.
“Each and every game we go out to play we regard ourselves as favourites,” said Pollard while talking to the media reporters after a training session. “England are a tough team to beat though they have not been playing well. If you look
back at the Twenty20 World Cup, they were in a similar position and were able to bounce back and actually reached the final.”
The stylish West Indies all-rounder, however, did say that they are more focused on their own performance. He insisted his teammates to play hard cricket and ‘stick to the basics’ if they are to make it to the quarterfinal stage of the mega
event. Pollard said that the Windies are well prepared to play the World Twenty20 champions and was confident of a win.
The 23-year-old Trinidad player also confirmed that the belligerent opener Chris Gayle has recovered from the abdominal strain he picked during the crucial game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 and will be available for the must-win fixture against England.
The hard-hitting middle-order batsman said that the side has performed well so far in the tournament adding that their aim for the time being is to earn a berth in the quarterfinals.
“The group has come along so nicely,” said the all-rounder. “After our loss to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in the first game, we have bounced back with collective performances.”
Pollard further added that nobody knew who will qualify for the quarterfinals from Group B but they will take their chance and try making the cut.
West Indies have six points from four games and have good chances of making it to the final eight but their last league games are against two strong sides, England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. The Windies need just one win from the two games in order to advance
in the mega event.
