Kieron Pollard happy with Windies fight against Australia – Cricket News Update
The hard-hitting middle-order batsman of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KA-Pollard-c1754 is happy with his side’s fight against the touring Australian side in the ongoing five-match One Day International series, which the hosts are leading 2-1 with the final One-Dayer to be
played at Beausejour Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia today, March 25, 2012.
"The Australians have come pretty hard at us, but one good thing is that we have not backed down," said the 24-year-old belligerent all-rounder, who struck a whirlwind 102 off just 70 balls in the fourth ODI at Beausejour on Friday to help his side win the
match by 42 runs.
The Windies kick started the ODI series against the mighty Aussies last week with a 64-run defeat in the opener. But the hosts came back quickly by winning the rain-curtailed second ODI by five wickets and salvaging a memorable draw in the third one-dayer.
The 42-run win in Friday’s match gave the Caribbean side a 2-1 lead in the five-match series and the Darren Sammy-led side must be looking forward to wrap up a first series win over the mighty Aussies in 17 years by winning Sunday’s final ODI as Gros Islet.
Appreciating his team’s fight back against the World No. 1 One-Day side, Pollard said that there prevails a new sense of determination in the West Indian camp.
"Every time they come at us we hit right back at them,” said the hard-hitting Trinidad all-rounder. “The fans and the public are behind us, backing us, and when we show that we are not going to back down, no matter what, it shows that we have a strength
in the team, a belief in ourselves and what we can do," he added further.
Friday’s blistering hundred was Pollard’s second century for the Windies and the first in the Caribbean. Expressing delight over the match winning ton, Pollard said: “Each game, each performance, is a learning experience and this is one that I will take
forward with me -- batting for the team and being there until the end."
It is pertinent to mention here that West Indies' five-wicket win in the second match of the series was their first victory over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 since 2006.
