Kierra Smith captures Women’s 100m breaststroke gold – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
Kierra Smith of Canada captured gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on second day of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Friday, August 24.
Smith showered her expertise in the double lap breaststroke discipline as she sprinted her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal. She faced tough battle from her team-member, Mariya Chekanovych but with her utter determination, Smith managed to outperform
her over the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With her continuous efforts, Smith managed to edge out her following swimmer over the finishing wall and captured gold medal with a timing of 1 minute and 08.54 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained 0.01 seconds faster from Chekanovych, who secured silver medal of the race by producing a time of 1 minute and 08.55 seconds.
Chekanovych was followed by Miku Kanasashi of Japan, who remained 0.08 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and pocketed bronze medal of the event by submitting a time of 1 minute and 08.63 seconds.
The third position holder was chased by Annie Zhu of USA, who stayed only 0.21 seconds slower from her former swimmer and hit the wall for fourth position by clocking a time of 1 minute and 08.84 seconds.
Subsequently, the arena saw furious competition between Sarah Haase of USA and Taylor McKeown of Australia for fifth fastest spot of the race. The duo struggled hard to surpass each other over the finishing end but tapped the wall with identical timings
for fifth place.
They remained 1.19 seconds slower from their former finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 10.03 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Georgia Bohl of Australia, who stayed 0.12 seconds slower and posted a time of 1 minute and 10.15 seconds.
Bohl was traced by Satori Hosokoshi of Japan, who suffered a loss of 0.25 seconds and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 10.40 seconds.
Furthermore, Smith was overjoyed with her top finish in the discipline and collected her award at the victory ceremony of the event.
