Kierra Smith overwhelms Women’s 200m breaststroke heats – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
Kierra Smith of Canada overwhelmed the qualification rounds of Women’s 200m breaststroke on day four of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Sunday, August 26.
Smith demonstrated her astonishing efforts in the 200m discipline as she clinched the fastest qualification spot in the playoff. She stayed in a comfortable lead over her competitors and entered the final round as top contender for gold medal.
Smith remained in a full body length lead over her immediate swimmer and hit the wall for first position by posting a fastest time of 2 minutes and 27.42 seconds.
She was followed by Annie Zhu of USA, who stayed 1.10 seconds slower from Smith and transpired on the wall as second best finisher by producing a time of 2 minutes and 28.52 seconds.
Zhu was chased by Anne Lazor of USA, who stayed 0.23 seconds behind and secured third fastest spot of the race by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 28.75 seconds.
Lazor remained in a lead of 0.05 seconds over Reona Aoki of Japan, who settled on the finishing blockade as fourth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 28.80 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Satori Hosokoshi of Japan, who remained 0.41 seconds slower from upsetting her foregoing finisher and clocked a timing of 2 minutes and 29.21 seconds.
Hosokoshi was trailed by Mariya Chekanovych of Canada, who remained only one arm stroke behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 29.42 seconds for sixth place.
The Canadian swimmer was traced by Taylor McKeown of Australia, who was 0.29 seconds apart and finished her race in seventh place by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 29.71 seconds.
McKeown was chased by Byanca Rodriguez Villanueva of Mexico, who remained comfortably slower from her former finisher and ended her race in eighth best place with a timing of 2 minutes and 35.67 seconds.
Smith was overjoyed with her top qualifying effort and stressed that she would try hard to prove her mettle for gold medal in the final round.
