The Werkself striker is delighted with his team’s win at the weekend over the Bavarian giants and admits that his side has a chance to end in the top four at the end of the season.
Bayer Leverkusen downed Bayern Munich at the BayArena which leaves them four points short of fourth placed Schalke. Werkself played hosts to the Bavarian giants on Saturday, March 03, and emerged as 2-0 winners. Stefan Kiessling
and Karim Bellarabi scored goals for the home side.
Kiessling believes that his side were on the front foot for most part of the game and should have gone into the lead early. He stated that Leverkusen’s approach was refreshing and insisted that his team rightly deserved all three
points.
It took 79 minutes for any team to break the deadlock but eventually Kiessling registered his name on the score sheet before Bellarabi’s 90th minute strike sealed a famous win for the BayArena outfit.
While talking to sports website, Goal.com, the 28-year-old former Nuremberg attacker further added:
"There were a lot of chances on both sides but I think we deserved to win. We are pleased that we were able to penetrate a good side. Now we will rest but [beating Bayern] feels good."
On the other hand, Kiessling’s teammate, Andre Schurrle, also commented on his team’s win over the record German champions. He insisted that it is a huge achievement to beat a club such as Bayern, who are one of the favourites
to win this year’s Bundesliga.
"We are relieved for the fans that we won against Bayern, which makes it a great day. We have to look back at our performances in the past few weeks where we have picked up three wins," Schurrle concluded.
This victory will prove to be a perfect tonic ahead of Leverkusen’s trip to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 for the second-leg of their UEFA Champions League knock-out stage. Werkself are currently trailing the reigning European champions by a 3-1 margin.
As a result of their win over Bayern, they are now four points behind Schalke at the fifth spot and could possibly qualify for the next year’s Champions League.
