The Bayer Leverkusen striker is confident that his side is well capable of pulling an upset at Camp Nou in the Champions League.
Bayer Leverkusen have been in stunning form since they lost 3-1 to Barcelona in their first-leg clash of the UEFA Champions League knock-out stage clash at BayArena last month. Robin Dutt’s side have won all three games in the
league since then and have closed the gap on Schalke for the fourth spot.
Werkself will next face the Catalan giants at the Camp Nou in the second-leg of the knock-out round on Wednesday, March 7. Although the 3-1 margin would be almost impossible to turnaround, Leverkusen will be looking to put in an
impressive performance against the reigning European champions to boost their confidence for the remaining league games.
Kiessling admits that his side may not have a realistic chance of winning at Camp Nou but is still hopeful that his team can put in an impressive display after the recent run of favourable results.
The striker claimed that the team wants to maintain the winning momentum after victories against FC Augsburg, FC Koln and Bayern Munich. He admitted that by winning against the Bavarian giants Leverkusen have proved that they have
the potential to beat any team so http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 will be another tough test.
“I do not know if we have a realistic chance [of going through]. But we want to trouble Barca. First the derby win in Koln, now at last a victory over Bayern. It was really fun to celebrate with the fans [at the weekend],” he was
quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Kiessling’s teammate, Eren Derdiyok added that Werkself have a great chance of playing in the UEFA Champions League next season and to finish fourth or higher is the team’s next goal.
“At first it seemed we would not even be in the Europa League, but now we can even dream of reaching the Champions League. This must be the goal,” he concluded.
Bayer Leverkusen currently sit in fifth place with 40 points from the 24 games played. The side is four points adrift of Schalke who occupy the fourth spot.
