  1. I think you may be asking two questions. Is it possible, and should you try it. Yes, it is possible. A sharp, heavy arrow at close range with excellent marksmanship would do it.

Would I try it? h**l no. Remember, that hog is going to be upset that you just skewered him. Ever see a bullfight after the fighter sticks him with that hooked spear? That's your hog now. They are mean, aggressive creatures that can and will do you great harm. They don't retreat, they pursue. What I'm saying is, get a tree stand if you must do this at all.

Also, consider the ethical implications of a nonlethal strike.

If it were me, I'd at least carry a major caliber handgun (44 magnum) as backup, and consider putting out his eyes so he wouldn't see me running out of the woods and screaming like a little girl once he started charging me :-P

  2. It's possible, but not likely.

You can have a .500 Magnum on your side to shoot em' while they're down! :)

  3. Depending where it was hit, the Hog would either survive or eventually die a slow painful death.*

  4. 30 pounds is a little light. Fifty or more, and a good tree to climb just in case, and you'd be in business.

  5. well its not the most ethical thing to do but i guess you could, i surly WOULDNT be in a ground blind or anything like that

BTW all you guys that were bitchin at me cause my 16 year old cousin carries a 45 acp or a 9 mil on him, CAUSE this is the reason why, him and his dad  was hunting hogs and he shot it w/ a 60lb compound bow w/ 2 inch expandables and the effin hog and a couple of others came bounding in and came through the blind that they had and left my cousin w/ over 80 some stiches 2 be put in him, and his father w/ over 30...

  6. Tribes have been doing it for longer than anyone can recall so yes it is possible. First you will need to check your local game laws.. feral hogs are considered pests but game laws regarding draw weight might still apply.

Shot placement is everything and yes you will want to have a side arm if your in monster hog territory. I wouldn't even consider taking a hog over say.. 150 pounds with a recurve bow. One comes along that size and I'll break out the revolver.

  7. It can be done with a perfect lung shot with a razor sharp two blade broadhead like the Magnus Stinger. Be no more then 20 yards to insure a good shot. I strongly suggest you shoot a sow instead of a boar. When you shoot the hog, if you don't get that perfect shot, there's going to be quite a show! Try to have someone video tape the event. It could be worth a lot of money on funniest videos. But yes, it can be done if everything comes together. Here's a hint- I am shooting a 70 lb draw bow, and have killed several hogs with it, but last year while hunting on the ground, I shot a boar hog- about 250 lbs- I thought my tree climbing days were over with, but he put me up one in a heart beat- Be careful and good luck! " I already had one picked out before hand, if push came to shove" Do the same.

  8. At least a 50 pound recurve and a good hunting broadhead would do the job humanely if your shot placement was skillful enough.

  9. Hey, there are guys here in Texas that hunt hogs with dogs and knives. Given the choice, I'd prefer the bow and arrow.

  10. With a sharp broadhead and a heart or lung shot that hog would bleed out almost as fast as if he were shot  with a gun.

  11. Check local laws. In some states it's illegal to hunt anything with less than a 45lb bow. Other than it just being unethical! Your more likely to wound it than to kill it. Can it be done,......absolutely. But just the fact that you ask the question tells me that you don't have the knowledge or experience to try it.
