Kill the noodle smell?

i like japanese, korean buckwheat noodles (soba?) for its low glycemic index and protein. i usually boil it but i dont like the smell of it. idk what to do cos i dont like salty sauces (soy) or hot, spicy stuff due to my gastritis. what can i do to get rid of that smell? may be add something while its boiling? thanks

  1. Try to look for "Cha Soba" it has green tea flavor in it so the smell is a little lighter and fresher than the gray buckwheat noodles. It's not that common but you might be able to find it.

    Also, I think some brands smell stronger than others.

    I'm not sure how you're preparing it. Are you eating it cold or hot? If you ate it cold with thinly sliced vegetables, small amount of wasabi and chopped perilla leaf then the smell would be virtually gone


  2. Throw in a big old ham hock works great.

  3. Don't you just hate it when it smells fishy? Ok, her is what to do, throw in some chicken boullion cubes, one should do it, and it will flavour and mask the taste and smell. Drain as usual placing your fav. toppings on it. This is what I do when I end up with some of those low glycemic, tofu noodles too.
