On your opinion Killarney is nicer als Limerick or Galway?

Who please tell me the differences between those towns?

Are their ease to reach from Galway's Airport?

It is better to rent a car or the area is well served by means of transport? There are local cheap rental place (for auto)?

Thanks in advance.

  1. Galway only has a small airport, I don't know of flights between Shannon airport (for Limerick) or Farranfore (for Killarney). Much easier to drive or take the bus.

Personally I think you should give Killarney a miss, it is lovely outside of the town, with the lakes and everything, but the town itself is a genuine tourist trap.

Galway is also touristy, but it's also a university city, so there's a great nightlife there.

Limerick is a university city also, and has a great nightlife, but also a thriving arts scene, with lots by way of exhibitions, performances, theatre, etc. It's one of those places where it really helps to know someone local.

To get around Ireland and see the more out-of-the-way places, you do need to rent a car, and as far as I know you must have a credit card to do this for every car hire company except Avis, which will accept cash but also takes a €500 deposit which you get back in full if the car is okay after you use it. They post you a cheque within a couple of weeks.

Public transport in Ireland is not good.

  2. Both Killarney and Galway are beautiful...Galway City is a small, pretty and cosmopolitan university City. Killarney has much more of a rural feel. Limerick, I don't know but from what I've heard, I wouldn't go. There are ample bus networks but I would recommend that you a hire a car anyway to take in the scenery.

  3. hi,are you thinking of coming to Ireland?limerick,is nice,killarney-galway,are main tourist areas,if i was you,i;d hire a car, these areas not to far from each other,Dublin about,4 and a half hours away,if you keep away from the main hotels, there are cheap b-b,s,of very good standard nice food, pub food very-good,crack is very good in all the bars, the coast around that area is fantastic, pop into county-sligo also, they are  all near each other and all very  scenic,if you come, hope you have a great time, best of luck, tom,.

  4. If you're going for a holiday then Killarney has a lot as it's great for driving the Ring of Kerry and enjoying the scenery.

Limerick and Galway are much bigger so there's a lot more going on in terms of business, shopping, nightlife etc.

Killarney is about 130 miles from Galway, about 80 from Shannon airport.

Public transport is a bit patchy in Ireland at the best of times so hiring a car is a good idea, especially for the sightseeing around Killarney.  Both Galway and Shannon airports would have car rental.  Not sure if it's cheap though!

    Hope this helps.
