Killer Graces to bring her winning form in the Grade 3 Sorrento Stakes at Del Mar on 5 August
The $150,000 Grade 3 Sorrento Stakes attracts eight juvenile fillies for the 5 August, 2011, 6.5 furlongs event, run on Poly Track at Del Mar.
The winner of consecutive stakes races at Hollywood Park, Killer Graces, grace the Sorrento Stakes with her presence among seven other 2-year-old fillies.
Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, who also co-owns the filly, Killer Graces got her first break in a maiden special weight race held at Hollywood Park on 1 May, 2011.
Under jockey Agapito Delgadillo, Killer Graces set off a blistering pace in the 4 ½ furlongs race, but fell just short of the mark before the winner Free and Able.  The winning time for the maiden race was 52.29 seconds.
Daughter of Congaree, out of Heatherdoesntbluff by Old Trieste, Killer Graces got back into the game in a month’s time for her next race over at a distance of 5 ½ furlongs in the Cinderella Stakes under jockey Joseph Talamo.
The 2-year-old bay filly bolted out from the gates and never looked back on Hollywood synthetic surface, as she set fast fractions throughout. The pair clocked in the distance of 5 ½ furlongs in 1 minute and 4.48 seconds on 11 June, 2011.
Her impressive run in the Cinderella Stakes turned some heads and the filly got some serious ratings in the next race, the Landaluce Stakes also at Hollywood Park synthetic surface on 16 July, 2011.
Under the same jockey Joseph Talamo, the Hollendorfer trained filly responded well to her rouse, as the pair went a notch up in distance in the Landaluce Stakes at 6 furlongs. The 2-year-old dashed out of the gates and quickly went on the outside to deliver
the killing blow.
She defeated her foes Mighty Caroline and Stayclassysandiego, with the final time of 1 minute and 11.23 seconds.
Killing Graces has entered the Grade 3 Sorrento Stakes and that would be her first time in a graded stakes race, but her connections are optimistic over the result as they aim at the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante for the ace filly which will go underway on 3
September, 2011.
The daughter of Congaree has so far earned $113,500 in all of three starts and, she will break from post 1 under jockey Joseph Talamo in the Sorrento Stakes at Del Mar.
The Kentucky-bred filly will be up against familiar foes, most notably the Landaluce Stakes runner up Mighty Caroline. The filly was caught up by Killing Graces after setting up the pace in the Landaluce Stakes, but couldn’t compete in the stretch.
Other contenders for the race would be the California based Heleonor Rugby, Willa B Awesome, River Kiss and Silent Sue among the others.
