Question:

Killifish egg hatching - some now, some later?

I was wondering if it's possible to hatch only some of the eggs now and save the rest for a later date? I would really like to hatch some but I don't think I'd want to attempt to hatch all 50 together. I'd like to space hatchings apart but I don't know if they have "expiration dates". I haven't found that info yet.

  1. if u dont move the eggs once layed they will get eaten,so  u can move some to a breeding tank and leave others but not at a later date, for more u will have to wait for more eggs to be layed hope this helps u out and good luck

  2. Are your eggs from a kind that lives where it dries up every year, and do you have them stored in moist peat moss?  That's the best way to keep them if they are.  If you have them in water, they'll get fungusy quicker.  And you have to keep them at the right temperature for that species or they won't develop right.  Some kinds can be stored up to 6 months, but others for just a couple of weeks.  Since you didn't say what kind you have, I can't be more specific.  Maybe you could look up the kind you have or post your question in this forum:  http://www.aka.org/aka/modules/content/i...
