Killing a grasshopper?

Question

I'm in a hotel room and a grasshopper just jumped into my house, and I'm a little scared of insects, but I want to kill him before I go to sleep. As you know, they're very jumpy and unpredictable What's a quick way of offing the grasshopper?

fear of the unknown or misunderstood is understandable, for crying out loud. I work with spiders and I still do the 'arachno-check' before I go to sleep.

As for your grasshopper, get a net or sifter, once over the insect slide some paper underneath and let it go outside.

It will probably just go about its business.

Killing the grasshopper is up to you, and I'm sure you've taken care of it by now, but what I want to address is your fear of insects:

Why is "anyone" afraid of anything?  It's because of lack of knowledge and familiarity with that thing.  Insects are very important to us and our world.  Did you know that "we" would not even exist if it were not for insects?  Insects not only help the environment and keep our planet healthy, but they bring beauty, charm and fascination into our lives.  Could you imagine a world without honey, or butterflies, or flowers, or birds, or us?  If it weren't for insects to help with these things, they would NOT even exist.

Take flys for example:  I have seen some of the most beautiful flys that you could imagine in the tropics.  Blue, green, purple, red, orange, and yellow flys, that flit around and do no more than pollinate fowers.  There is an Praying Mantis that looks like a big pink flower.  Tropical Katydids would amaze  you with their color and diversity of shape.  The Morpho is a very big butterfly that is so bright in the sun, that it's hard to stare at it.  It's bright, metalic blue color is amazing and glitters in the sun when it flits among the tropical trees.  Women used to wear jewelry made from the wings of this butterfly.

If you would just take the time, when you have the time, to learn more about insects, you would lose your fear, and instead,  you would begin to admire them and be fascinated by every one you see, as I have been all my life.
