Killzone 3 – Weapons Guide – Part 1
Killzone 3 has been given many labels by various critics and fans alike. Intense multiplayer action, atmospheric graphics, poor storyline and clunky controls are just a few things the gaming community knows Guerrilla Games’ series for.
One thing everyone seems to agree on however, is that the weapons in Killzone 3 feel heavy, meaty and pack a real punch, which is a huge plus point for any first person game.
So we here at Bettor.com decided to give a shout out to the weapons in the series and give them some time in the spotlight.
Assault Rifles
There are two Assault Rifles in the game, one used by each faction, i.e. the ISA and the Helghast. The ISA soldiers get the M82 Assault Rifle as a standard issue.
The weapon has evolved since it first appeared in the original Killzone game on the PlayStation 2, with the Grenade Launcher attachment having been removed from the underside of the barrel. However, that did little to dampen the damage which the firearm
is capable of dealing.
With a decent fire rate and devastating accuracy, the M82 can be used in almost any scenario, be it close quarters combat or medium to long range fire fights.
However, the weapon truly comes into its own when fired in short controlled bursts. Aiming down the sight brings up the, now trademark, green cross hair, which is the bringer of death.
The problem with the gun is that once players get used to it they will rarely opt to try out another weapon as it almost forms a bond with the player.
In multiplayer, there are two variations of the weapon. One is made available to the Tactician class and is the same as the M82 found in the single player game. The second one a silenced, burst fire version which fires a three round burst and is available
to the Medic class.
Personally, we here at Bettor.com prefer the second loadout, as the M82’s accuracy coupled with the three shot burst is more than just a little satisfying to rake up kills with.
Then we have the Helghast version of the Assault Rifle and like every evil twin cliché, it seems to have gone for a different choice in colour.
Abandoning the Green and Silver finish of the M82, the Helghast StA52 Assault Rifle opts for the slick black finish with a menacing looking red reticule. Like its ISA cousin, the StA52 has also gone a bit of a makeover, as the Shotgun attachment, which it
had in Killzone 1, has been removed.
Less of a long range weapon, though it can be used as one but the M82 would be a better choice, and more of a close to medium range fire arm, the STA52 is a gun which few players will enjoy, mostly because they will stick to the M82 and the easily available
ammunition dumps.
However, for those who do give the gun a shot or two will notice the clear cut difference between it and its ISA cousin. It just feels as if someone decided to sacrifice accuracy for firepower.
Following the same line as the M82, the StA52 also has two versions in multiplayer. The standard version and the five-round burst version which the Marksman class can unlock.
The latter also comes equipped with a suppressor and is best used where close to medium quarters sniping is required.
