Killzone 3 – Weapons Guide – Part 3
When it comes to gaming icons, the Helghast may not be up there with Spartans from the Halo series, or Nathan Drake from Uncharted, but they are well known and one of the reasons, apart from the arousing glowing red eyes, is the weapons they use.
The StA52 LAR is a weapon almost every PlayStation user will be familiar with, but if there is one weapon can take give the Assault Rifle a run for its money; it has to be the VC32 Sniper Rifle.
When it appeared in Killzone 1, on the PlayStation, it tried to do things differently with respect to the way the player would aim through the scope when he zoomed in.
However, that was scrapped for Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 and it now uses the standard fixed cross hairs found in every other sniper rifle in every other game. However, what the VC32 does manage to do very well is give the players that unrivalled satisfaction
of a one shot kill.
No matter where the enemy solider is hit, the Helghast sniper rifle will end up with a kill. One may think that this will have noobs using the weapon every chance they get, however, it does take skill to wield.
Once the weapon is mastered, it is a completely different story, as some of the highest ranking players during the larger maps are more often than not, snipers using this weapon.
With variable zoom modes available which allow the weapon to adapt from medium to long range, it is the only true sniper rifle in the game, which makes one wonder what the ISA have been doing having not come up with their own sniper.
No wonder they always struggle against the Helghast when the enemy is picking them off one by one and that too, from a safe distance.
Maybe Killzone 4 will finally see an ISA version of the sniper rifle, but until then the VC32 Sniper Rifle will retain its place as a PlayStation 3 icon, as well as the weapon with the most satisfying headshot experiences.
While not exactly a sniper rifle if one was to scrutinise it, the StA-14 Rifle, still manages to hold its own, despite having an agonisingly slow rate of fire and the fact that it takes more than one shot to take down an opposing player.
However, it more than makes-up for it in the accuracy department. From a crouching position, the cross hairs come together increasing accuracy drastically, without even having to aim down the iron sight or scope.
If players get used to the weapon and can time their second shot right when the weapon recovers from its recoil, the weapon is devastating at any range. Although, at close range, it does require quite a fair bit of skill to master.
The problem with this weapon is that it fades into the background once the more powerful and adaptable weapons are unlocked. A love it or hate it weapon, it does have many strengths, but its restrictive use means that this is a weapon not too many players
will be using all that often.
