Guerrilla Games lives up to their promise and gamers can download the multiplayer component for free via the PlayStation Store and also there double XP.
Sony and Guerrilla Games are celebrating the one year anniversary of the futuristic inter-planetary first-person shooter, Killzone 3, by giving back to the gaming community.
With the release of titles such as EA’s Battlefield 3 and Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, it is safe to say that Killzone 3 would find it difficult to sell as many copies now as it did earlier.
Yet, what the developers and publishers can do is reinvigorate interest in the game and that is what they seem to be doing as Sony has announced that Killzone 3’s multiplayer is now free to play.
If PlayStation 3 users sign into their PlayStation Network accounts and head over to the PlayStation Store they will find ‘Killzone 3 Multiplayer’ listed and available for download.
The best bit about it is that the title costs nothing and anyone can access, download and play the title.
There is a catch, though, and that is the fact that players can only level up to a certain rank, after which they will have to purchase the game to continue playing. The purchase at that point in time will set gamers back $14.99, which is not too bad an
offer.
At the same time all the multiplayer maps, as well as those that were released later on as DLC, will be available from day one of download, making it quite a chunky file but at the same time a very enticing offer.
It seems a great move from Sony’s part as it removes the element of risk for gamers who were uncertain of whether or Killzone 3 was worth their hard earned money.
If the free to play download hits off then both the publisher and developer can see more revenue trickle in.
However, it seems that neither Sony nor Guerrilla Games have forgotten the existing fan-base as they also have a double XP (experience points) weekend lined up which begins on the 2nd
of March and ends on the 3rd of March.
