KillzoneDotCom, the game’s official Twitter page, revealed that the first game of the series would not be coming to the PS3, but gave no reason for the move.
With the advances in communication, technology and the fact that social media is becoming a major platform for developers and publisher to make announcements, it seems that news can come from just about anywhere.
That seems to be the case for the video game industry as well with news coming from a number of sources ranging from information found on CVs at LinkedIn to retail listings on the websites of a number on online resellers.
In the case of the latest bit of Killzone news, it came straight from the horse’s mouth via a tweet from @KillzoneDotCom.
The tweet, in all of its mystery, read, “With regards to KZ1 (Killzone 1) for PS3, not sure what happened but I’ve been informed that it’s been delayed indefinitely.”
Short, sweet and leaving many gamers wondering, the tweet caused a bit of a stir in the PlayStation community as a number of Killzone fans wondered why the PlayStation 2 was not being released on the current generation Sony console.
Especially if one considers the fact that it was not a remake or a High Definition remastering of the title but rather a straight forward digital conversion.
For those who do not know the difference, a remake is basically when the game is built from the ground up on a new console, a remaster is when the graphics are upped and brought to HD specifications and a digital conversion is when the title is simply put
on the PlayStation Store, or its equivalent, for download and play without any enhancements.
More often than not a game is remastered and then given the digital treatment, however, one cannot confirm whether that will be the case with Killzone 1.
However, at the same time one has to wonder, could the move to pull the plug on the simple digital conversion of the game be because Guerrilla Games wish to remaster the title? It seems plausible seeing how a number of older titles have received similar
treatment.
At this time though, everything apart from the fact that there will be no Killzone 1 on the PlayStation 3 is speculation.
