Kim Bi-O wins the GS Caltex Maekyung Open Golf Championship – Golf News
Kim Bi-O fired a four-under par 68 in the final round of the GS Caltex Maekyung Open Golf Championship to take a five-stroke victory over Ryu Hyun-woo on Sunday, May 13, 2012.
Bi-O remained consistent in each of the rounds he played at the Namseoul Country Club, Seoul, South Korea.
He started off the final round with a bogey on the first hole. However, he bounced back strongly with a birdie on the very next hole.
Thereafter, he carded birdies on the seventh and ninth holes to reach two-under for the round before starting the back nine.
On the back nine, he continued his impressive game and carded another two birdies that took him way ahead of his rivals on the course.
"I have always dreamed of winning this tournament more than any other in Korea," Kim said, according to comments released by the organisers. "People who win here tend to go on to greater things”.
The victory also earned him $171,000 that allowed him to take the second spot on the OneAsia Order of Merit.
Last year, Bi-O made an entry into the PGA Tour as the youngest player but failed to contend against the big fishes of the game and lost the cards for 2012 season.
"I was a little bit too eager," he said. "I was playing with all the best players in the world and I was trying too hard to keep up".
In the meantime, Hyun-woo carded a bogey-free six-under par 66 to take the second spot on the leaderboard.
The highlight of his performance on Sunday includes an eagle putt that he made on the par-five ninth hole.
According to the golf commentators, Hyun-woo played some really good shots throughout the tournament. The only problem was his first-round score when he went over par for the round.
Park Sang-hyun, who was only two strokes behind Bi-O while entering the final round, faltered in the final round and carded a two-over par 74 to slip to a lower position on the leaderboard to take the fourth position. He mixed two birdies with two bogeys
and a double bogey.
