Kim Buss, Inken Wienefeld raise Women’s Doubles trophy in European Universities Games 2012
Germany’s female shuttlers Kim Buss and Inken Wienefeld forged fruitful chemistry in title match of European Universities Games-Badminton Individual Tournament and claimed Women’s Doubles crown on Tuesday, July 17, 2012.
They stamped Magdalena Jaworek-Aneta Walentukanis of Poland by registering decisive figures of 21-12 and 21-15.
Though, this final encounter lasted for just 31 minutes but still the local crowd was entertained with commendable show of skills in Rafael Lozano badminton arena of Córdoba, Spain.
The victorious German duo played flawless badminton throughout this crucial match and locked the honour on merit whereas the opposing team could not come out of their influence and surrendered tamely.
Kim Buss and Inken Wienefeld, who were representing University of D. Essen, got into right momentum straight away in first half of the opening game and did not lose this rhythm throughout the first set.
They swiftly registered a mountainous total of 7-2 and then made the best out of this initial advantage in next couple of rallies.
They pushed the opposing team in all areas of court and beat them with masterly crafted and well placed strokes.
The Polish players proved themselves slightly lazy as they could not pick the bird early and dropped several points which resulted in 4-11 figure before the interval.
However, Magdalena-Aneta showed some spark in later part of the game as they stepped forward by prevailing in three uninterrupted rallies and reached a fighting position of 9-12.
Interestingly, this progress worked in the Germans’ favour as they switched on their best and reinstated their dominance with a strong backlash.
Kim and Inken strengthened their grip over the game with 16-10 and then magnified the impact by piling up a winning score of 21-12.
The second set of the match heated up with some back-to-back rallies as both pairs strived hard to gain an early lead but neither of them could hit the target in first half. They remained close until one-minute break and started second half with a tight
margin of 11-9.
Conversely, later part of the game turned a dead contest as the twosome of Kim-Inken bagged 10 out of ending 16 points and raised their hands as Champions with final result of 21-15.
