Kim Clijsters achieved 38th single title by winning WTA event
The Women Tennis Association tournament organized in Cincinnati, Ohio, has finally come to an end with all its excitements and thrills. The final of the 2-million dollar mega-tournament was held between the two tennis veterans Maria Sharapova and Kim Clijsters.
The final was worth watching, as both queens of the tennis court battled hard to prove their leadership. It was a tough match because of hot and humid weather and the combat between the two tennis pros made it even tougher. Clijsters clutched the thrashing victory over her Russian former world number-one opponent Maria Sharapova by 2-6 7-6 6-2 in a three set stamina-jolting match. It was Sharapova who started to build the pressure for her Belgian opponent and secured the lead by winning the first set pretty convincingly. After winning the semi-final against the Russian tennis star Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Sharapova was playing like never before and seemed to be grasping the old winning touch. But the day was unfortunate for her, as Kim proved her stronger dominance and control over the racquet. Sharapova gave a very strong challenge and smashed the service twice and claimed the first set in a victorious way. The Russian tennis star made the match even more thrilling by playing superb quality shots in the second set and achieved the lead by 4-3. This was the time for Clijsters to bounce back strongly, which she did impressively. Clijsters got more frustrated when Sharapova increased the pressure on her by enlarging the lead to 5-3. Clijsters successfully saved the match point, which certainly was a sign of sigh for her at that particular moment. After the tie-break, it was Clijsters who dominated and showed her best class. She played to her best and outclassed her Russian opponent. The tie-break edged Clijsters to grab the fantastic victory.
It was no doubt an overwhelming success for Kim Clijsters, as she got third major title in 2010. After winning the match she expressed her views happily and said it was a very tough match as she was almost losing it. She added that she is happy after her victory but not satisfied with the way she performed. Clijsters later added that she tried hard to serve well but it was not a good day for her but somehow she managed to hit powerfully throughout the match, which helped her well. The world number 3 tennis ace from Belgium, Kim Clijsters went on to say that the break in the match helped her in planning and analyzing her statistics for the match. She said that her aggressive comeback in the game led her to the victory and she is very happy with the way everything happened.
It was a 2-hour and 37-minute long, tough and stamina-wrenching match. The 27-years old Belgian ace showed her class and grabbed the thirty eighth career single title for her. On the other hand despite of losing the match Sharapova seemed pretty relaxed and confident to participate in the approaching Grand Slam which is going to be conducted at the end of this month. While talking about her performance she said that it was a great match as she enjoyed each and every moment of it. Maria added that the whole week was full of joys and great competitions for her and she is happy to see the great support from her fans and the tournament management. Later she wished Kim for her victory in the tournament and said that she is a great player to play against. Sharapova said that she will try hard to comeback even stronger and will love to challenge Kim Clijsters again.
By winning the WTA tournament Kim has certainly conveyed a strong message to all the other tennis players that she is not out of the race for winning the last Grand Slam of this season.
