Kim Clijsters defeats Stephanie Foretz Gacon to fly high in round two – Australian Open 2012
World number 14, Kim Clijsters, rounded her second head-to-head win against the French veteran, Stephanie Foretz Gacon, in the round two of the Australian Open tournament. On Wednesday both players locked horns for the second
time in their career and former world number one sealed the third round berth with a straight sets win 6-0, 6-1. It was a display of sheer class and domination from the Belgian.
First triumph was for the Clijsters against Gacon came in the NASDAQ-100 Open contested in Miami, Florida; that was way back in 2002. Almost after 10 years the French had her chance to take her revenge of the first loss but
her legs and body was not in the condition to take on the superior ranked Belgian. It was a complete one-sided show put forth by Clijsters.
Show started with a successful serve game for the former world number one. Some of the attendants were still moving into the arena when the Belgian had already taken 2-0 lead with a successful break serve. She held her serve
to take 3-0 lead and struck three back-to-back winners down the line to take 4-0 lead.
Two successive breakthroughs for the Belgian were good enough to create an impact. Her opponent was clueless and knew less about to tackle the situation; experience of playing tennis for so many years proved useless as the
French lost yet another game on her serve that rounded off the first set proceedings with a bagel for Clijsters.
Second set was not much different from the first one, apart from one successful serve game upfront for the French. It was the only time she could hear the commentator say ‘Game Gacon’. Clijsters continued her emphatic show
with a successful break serve in the fourth game coupled with two devastating aces across the court to name the fifth game of the set.
Everyone witnessed the Belgian veteran superstar fuming with aggression and confidence, hammering her opponent and spared nothing at all. Another break serve in the sixth game was followed up with a successful serve game
that confirmed the place for Clijsters in the third round. She left the arena with a sweet smile and multiple autographs for her fans.
