Kim Clijsters does not seem to be getting rid of injuries – Tennis Special
It looks like the former world number one, Kim Clijsters, can never get rid of her injuries in this life. Whenever the Belgian gets healthy and makes a comeback after months of lay off, some new injury waits for her.
One can accept that Clijsters was a force to reckon with in her prime time, may be can she can become a power house once again if she can remain fit but the way things have gone in recent times it would be better if she focuses
on her family life.
All of us will miss her on the WTA Tour but at least her cute daughter, Jada, will get the due share of her mother’s attention.
She has been sidelined from the WTA tour for four weeks with a hip injury, it was learnt.
The Belgian’s agent gave a statement which said, “Kim has got an excess of fluid in her right hip joint, which turned out to be a deep muscle tear in her hip. The pain got worse during the match, making it more difficult for her
to move.”
Clijsters was troubled with the same problem during the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne last week, losing to Yanina Wickmayer in straight sets in the third round. After her latest loss, the four-time Grand Slam champion accepted
during an interview with a Belgian TV Channel that the sport was "becoming too much for my body".
This statement from Clijsters gave birth to the rumours that she was quitting professional tennis with immediate effect.
However, the Belgian denied that, posting on a social networking website, twitter, "I don't know who started the rumours. I am not quitting. Not yet! I have some great tennis left in me! Just making that very clear."
Clijsters has faced a number of injuries recently. The right-hander had made a comeback to the tennis courts after a two month layoff. The Belgian was participating in her first tournament after the Australian Open, where she lost
to the eventual champion, Victoria Azarenka, after a three set battle in the semi-finals. She was troubled by an ankle problem at the Melbourne Park.
This recent series of injuries has resulted in the former world number one’s ranking to be dropped at 37th spot.
The Belgian has not won a single title in the last 13 months. She defeated Li Na in straight sets 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the Australian Open final last year to win her latest crown.
Though, Clijsters has announced that she will hang her boots, for the second time, after Olympics or the US Open. The Belgian had previously retired from the sport in 2007 after facing continuous injuries but she made a return
to the WTA tour in 2009.
Playing only the third tournament after her comeback, Clijsters won the US Open and became the only unseeded player to win the title at the Flushing Meadows.
The Belgian is expecting to make a return at the Mutua Madrid Open in May, where she will start her preparation for the French Open.
