Kim Clijsters is not having second thoughts about retiring - Tennis News
Former world number one, Kim Clijsters, announced last month that she would be unequivocally resigning from tennis, for the second time, following the final of the US Open this year. The 29-year-old champion is all set to
embark the All-England-Courts this Olympics, however, she knows now that she is too old to entertain herself with the game plan she dreams.
The Belgian having previously retired from tennis to start a family in 2007, returned three years ago with a two-year break. She enjoyed her winning enchantment by securing all three out of four major titles. Later, she exhibited
signs of abdominal injury and retired from the semi-finals of the tournament in Netherlands.
In a press conference, she informed the media, “I have no regret. I know I always gave myself 100 per cent,” she told reporters who had crammed into a small interview room at Wimbledon. I am too old to play the game that
I want to play physically. I’ve put my body through enough strain and everything. The whole lifestyle, that’s what I’m dealing with now. It’s been great. I wouldn’t change it for a thing. I naturally have that strong movement, powerful shots, and that’s been
able to have me on top of women’s tennis and be on the highest part of women’s tennis, with Venus, Serena, Justine.”
It was not an easy comeback for Clijsters. She had to pass from a great deal of trouble and eventually her hard work played off. Her resolute to perform better and compete at a higher level is remarkable. She won her first
Australian Open title in 2011 and rose to the world number one spot in the WTA Premier Rankings; however, her niggling injuries didn’t allow her to sustain that coveted spot much longer.
The player is contented with her career and does not strive to bag home any more titles. She has the determination to outdo her preceding scores every time she plays. The Belgian veteran has also made her post retirement
plan public. She strongly believes that tennis has transformed her life and she aspired to work for the uplift of the sport for the future generation. She is yet not sure about how she will feel when her Wimbledon tenure will be finally over. She is passionate
about her family and wants to spend the rest of her time in giving them the best of her.
