Kim Clijsters satisfied with her performance at the Australian Open tournament – Tennis News
Defending Champion of the Australian Open, Kim Clijsters, was knocked-out of the tournament on Thursday by the 3rd ranked Belarusian, Victoria Azarenka, in an epic three-setter encounter. It was a very well posed effort
by the Belgian and she is satisfied by her performance on the return to the tennis circuit after a very long injury layoff.
In a post-match interview, Clijsters said, “That's definitely something that I'm proud of, that I was able to fight through tough matches. I could have been home already two days ago. I feel that I really gave it 200 per cent,
so in that way I really don't feel like I could have done anything differently these last two weeks."
She was given a standing ovation on her emphatic performance throughout the tournament. Everything was going right for her and she looked set to defend her title before the Belarusian came at her as a surprise package. It was a
cracking encounter to say the least and viewers loved every bit of it. With her Australian Open journey coming to an end, Clijsters hinted that it might be her last time at Melbourne as she plans to retire from the tennis circuit this year.
The Belgian looks forward to the next Grand Slam tournament and set her sight on the Roland Garros French Open. She needs to end her career with an emphatic run of form and amongst the Top-10 players of the world. Talking about
her new goals, she said, “That's definitely been one of the frustrations that I think I've had over these last couple of years, or even since I've come back, is that I haven't really been able to give it a good shot at the French Open. It is a challenge. It's
one of the goals that I have this season.”
Tears rolled down the face of her fans at the Rod Laver on the day of the semi-final as she marched towards the exit door; everyone knew that it would be her last Australian Open campaign and said goodbye to her with a big prolonged
round of applause. She is 28-years-old and her services in the field of tennis are remarkable. She moved to the top spot in the world rankings last year in February when she was crowned the Australian Open champion.
Since then she has been out of action due to injury and this will probably be her last year in the tennis circuit. Clijsters is a legendary character and her accomplishments will be written in the history book with golden words.
