Kim Clijsters says “To me, Serena is the best ever” – Tennis News
Former world number one, Kim Clijsters, will play her last tournament of the career at New York. She will be ending her supreme run of play at the US Open and that will mark an end of an era that witnessed some mind-startling encounters
at the disposal of tennis fanatics.
Before entering the last event of her career, Clijsters stated something that was pretty much on the cards and someone had to accept it. It was the Belgian superstar who stated that the American number one, Serena Williams, is
the best ever tennis player in the history of women tennis to have honoured the game. She has got everything; American powerhouse is definitely the best player of her generation but the tag of ‘best ever’ might be controversial. However, Clijsters had no doubt
that the fourth ranked American is the ultimate tennis icon for young guns.
She stated, “To me, Serena is the best ever just because I think physically she just stands out. When she's in good shape, I think she just stands out tremendously. I mean, she's fast, she's strong and she has a very good eye as
well. I think the combination of that is what we have seen over the last few months - (she) is the best player ever."
Since the start of April, Williams has won 34 matches and faced just two defeats. The incredible run included the Wimbledon Championships title, the Stamford crown and the gold medal at the London Olympics.
In a press conference on the eve of Saturday, Clijsters further added, “I was in full admiration of all those big names. I feel very lucky that I have been able to be a part of a big generation where Venus and Serena kind of raised
women's tennis to a completely different level.”
Williams is the hot favourite to clinch the US Open title at New York. Clijsters will also be there for her last ever tournament of the professional career. It will be an epic contest to say the least but the admiration of the
retiring Belgian is definitely worth an applause who accepted her fellow player to be the very best in the arena.
