Kim Clijsters to make a comeback in 2012 – Tennis News
Former World No.1, Kim Clijsters, is back to training grounds after spending a long period at sidelines due to her multiple injuries; specially shoulder, foot and abdominal injuries. She has not been able to make a mark of her
game since her first Australian Open triumph in January this year.
The Belgian tennis icon played her last in the first round of Toronto Open in August against the Chinese Jie Zheng but retired due to injury and since then she has been omitting tournaments. She also pulled out of US Open due to
her left chronic abdominal injury; she won US Open title in this title thrice in 2005, 2009 and 2010. She was extremely disappointed from being pulled out of the tournament and showed her despair in regretful manner stating that she can only do rest and have
treatment. She apologized to her fans and assured them of her 100% fitness by the end of this year. Maria Sharapova’s shoulder injury forced her to miss her title defence at Australian Open in 2009.
The latest news update on her blog will definitely please her fans across the globe as she said “I am currently preparing for the Diamond Games (on December 8 at the Antwerp Sportpaleis) and the new season. And things [are going]
very well so far. We’ve added a lot of volume to my base training and worked on power, endurance and speed training”.
Clijsters has won 41 WTA single titles and 11 WTA double titles. She has clinched four Grand Slam titles; three of them came at US Open and one earlier this year at the Australian Open. An unexpected announcement from the Belgian
came in the year 2007 when she declared that she will be retiring from professional circuit with the effect from May 06, 2007 but took back her decision of retirement after two years and cleared the air by her return to the WTA tour in summer season.
Fans are eagerly waiting for her comeback and the news on her blog would definitely delight them. She explained her recovery from the injury in the following words “The recent injuries are doing fine too: both the right foot [and]
the stomach muscles respond very well to the efforts. [The] next couple of weeks my training sessions will include [even] more tennis hours. The way things progress now, I feel that I will be ready by the time of the Diamond Games! “On 1 January 2012 my season
will start at the Brisbane tournament”.
Novak Djokovic’s injury and fatigue issues for Federer also forced them to pull out of Shanghai Masters. The increased level of injuries amongst top notches of tennis has definitely raised few questions about the hectic schedule
of tournaments throughout the calendar year.
