Kim Clijsters undesirably pulls out of French Open – Tennis News
Former world number one, Kim Clijsters, has decided to forego the clay season this year because she is still suffering from the chronic hip injury. She was expected to make a return at the year’s second Grand Slam event, the Roland
Garros French Open, but the recent update from her side is that she is not going to risk her body and wait until she is completely fit.
She is currently 28-year-old and ranked 41 in the world. However, her absence from the tennis circuit will further decline her ranking that will alarm her participation in the London Olympics, later this year. Only the Top-64 players
in the world by June 21, 2012 will take part in the event. However, there is quite a possibility that she may receive a wildcard to play in the tournament but still that all depends on the tournament officials and Belgian’s Tennis Federation.
The recent update on her website stated, “It's such a pity not to be able to play a last clay court season. But I can't be fully fit for the French Open (which begins on May 27). I really look forward starting a long training to
be ready for the grass court season where I will pursue two main goals at Wimbledon and the Olympic Games.”
These are difficult times for the world class player. She is troubled with niggling injuries for the past one and half year. She stayed out of action for almost half a year before making a comeback in the year’s first Grand Slam
tournament, the Australian Open. She was sidelined again but made a comeback in the Sony Ericsson Open at Miami where she faced another career threatening hip injury.
Rumours have been floating in the media that she will retire by the end of 2012 but there has been no official statements put forth by the Belgian tennis ace. Recently, she was dropped from the Federation Cup squad of Belgium and
this news will definitely disappoint majority of her fans. Everyone hopes that she recovers with Godspeed and makes a thunderous start to the grass court season.
