Kim Clijsters will be much more careful with her scheduling next year – Tennis News
Kim Clijsters is out of action since August due to a severe injury that forced her to have a premature ending to the season. Many players have been critical of the fact that hectic schedules are forcing too much pressure over players
and their bodies are not responding to it in the same manner, hence, injuries incur on regular intervals. Clijsters has been one of the victims of tight scheduling from Women Tennis Association.
She stated on her official website “The start of 2011 was really good. But after that I made some decisions I no longer would make now. After a physically and psychologically very strenuous Australian Open, the indoor tournament
in Paris was the one event too much. Now, I'll be listening to my body much better."
Belgian has decided to take a lot of care of her body and will take care of her schedule in 2012. She made her decision considering her long wait to return to the tennis arena due to an injury and she has decided to take part in
the tournaments that are very critical for her and are not scheduled right after another tournament. She will take breaks to make sure her injury doesn’t erupt once again that forces her to stay at the sidelines for yet another season end.
28-year-old had a tough season in 2011 as she injured her knee while dancing at a family wedding ceremony and then stayed out of action due to wrist and shoulder injuries. She started the year in great style having won the Australian
Open Grand Slam title but couldn’t convert a comprehensive start into an emphatic finishing, had to stay away from courts for almost half the season.
She is eyeing a return to the arena in January, next year, at Brisbane and will definitely try to regain some momentum to her game before entering the first Grand Slam tournament of the new season, Australian Open. She added "I
will take things one tournament at a time, but above all I would like to improve my game. I have been working really hard at my service, because that often did not go well in the past year.”
World number thirteen recently played an exhibition match with the reigning Dane world number one, Caroline Wozniacki, and she stunned everyone by defeating her in straight sets 6-2, 7-6(5). It shows that she is in good form but
the real test will come in January when she meets her competitors at courts in a title race.
